Volunteering at Stannington Library – June 2022

We have a dedicated team of volunteers who look after all aspects of running Stannington Library.  This ranges from trustees and committee members who manage the back office to the frontline volunteers who work at the desk with customers, processing book loans and reservations, and keeping our shelves neatly stacked.

We are currently looking for more volunteers to help on the frontline - dealing directly with the public with a range of tasks, from checking out books to registering new users. Full training will be given.

We also have opportunities for volunteers to help with other areas of running the library.

In particular we would welcome a candidate with knowledge of book keeping to become our finance officer working alongside our current treasurer. If you are interested in helping with other financial tasks, this could be helping with collecting donation pots through to keeping an eye on our contracts, we would love to hear from you.

Could you help with putting up posters on the local noticeboards and in the local shops? Is anyone interested in helping to create displays in the library? We would welcome extra support with cleaning the library if anyone could offer this.

We like to support our younger members of the library with the opportunity to volunteer as part of their educational experience but unfortunately this is not possible currently. Covid numbers are still high and our volunteers are mostly retired and we feel this is still too risky. We hope to recommence this as soon as possible.

If you are interested in volunteering in any way please send us your contact details by email on [email protected] or ring 0114 234 8732, you can leave a message if we are closed. Alternatively you can download our STAND Volunteer Application Form - click here - which can be completed and delivered to the library. However you contact us, our volunteer coordinator will contact you to arrange a meeting.

STAND was formed in 2013 after Sheffield City Council announced its decision to close sixteen libraries (including Stannington) unless volunteers took them on. STAND was registered as a charity in 2014 and is funded by grants, donations and fund-raising activities. The library is run by a team of dedicated volunteers.
