Stannington Library has been run by STAND since 2014.  It currently has around 8500 of its own books – The Yellow Sticker Collection - as well as around 3000 books owned by Sheffield Libraries.

Sheffield Council awards us a grant every year to help pay our costs.  We hope the Council continues to support us, but the amount it pays us currently is about a third of what we need to keep our library running.

The rest of the money needed is raised from:

DONATIONS are vital to us!

There are a few ways you can DONATE:

Green Donation Boxes

Our local shops and pubs very kindly let us put our Green Donation Boxes near their tills.  We also have one in the library. We are registered to claim Gift Aid on these donations.

Direct Donations of Money

Some people kindly donate money directly to us, either as cash or a cheque.  Please consider filling in a Gift Aid declaration form if you donate in this way, as we are registered to collect the tax refund.

Friends of Stannington Library

Friends of Stannington Library agree to donate to us on a regular basis.  Donating in this way is really appreciated as not only does this mean we can plan ahead with more certainty, but we can also collect a tax refund if you complete a Gift Aid Declaration. This means that every £1 you donate to us is worth £1.25. Click here to find out more.

Co-op Community Fund

We have been lucky to be chosen as a Co-op Local Good Cause twice in recent years. This is a brilliant scheme that really benefits local causes. If you are a Co-op member please make sure you nominate one of the current local good causes via the Co-op website membership.coop.co.uk/causes. We may be able to apply again soon!

Donation of Books, CDs, DVDs, Video Games and Jigsaw Puzzles

We have a crate in our foyer where you can leave donations of good quality and good condition Books, CDs, DVDs, Video Games and Jigsaw Puzzles.

Some donated books are added to our Stannington Library Yellow Sticker Collection. Any excess books are either sold in the library or to online companies. We sometimes have second-hand book stalls at events.

Donated jigsaw puzzles and DVDs are also sold in the library. Excess DVDs, together with CDs and Video Games, are sold to online companies or passed on to other local charities.

Scrap Metal

One of our volunteers offers to collect scrap metal from properties in Stannington - he then sells it to our local scrap merchant.  This does not include white goods (e.g. fridges and freezers) but any other item that is mainly made from metal.  Please ring 07702 563073 to arrange collection. This is usually on Saturday mornings.

THANK YOU if you have donated in any way

– it is very much appreciated.

STAND was formed in 2013 after Sheffield City Council announced its decision to close sixteen libraries (including Stannington) unless volunteers took them on. STAND was registered as a charity in 2014 and is funded by grants, donations and fund-raising activities. The library is run by a team of dedicated volunteers.
