Summer Reading Challenge 2022

Thank you to all the children who took part in The Summer Reading Challenge 2022 and The Summer Reading Mini Challenge 2022.

We hope you enjoyed meeting the Gadgeteers: James, Ajay, Aisha, Leo, Maggie & Eddie.

We also hope you enjoyed reading books!

The challenge officially finished on Saturday 17th September 2022.

This is what you had to do.

Visit 1: Call in to Stannington Library and fill in a registration card. Borrow at least two books that will count towards your Summer Reading Challenge.

Visit 2: Return your first two books. You will receive your Collectors Pack and the first two Gadgeteer stickers, as well as a bookmark. Borrow at least two books.

Visit 3: Return your books. You will receive the next two Gadgeteer stickers as well as a pencil. Borrow at least two books.

Visit 4: Return your books. You will receive the final two Gadgeteer stickers as well as a certificate and a medal to celebrate achieving your Summer Reading Challenge. Of course we will be very happy if you also borrow some more books!

Do I have to be a member of the library to register for the challenge?

Yes, you need to have a Library Card. You can apply for a card at Stannington Library. An adult will have to sign on your behalf.

What is the Mini Challenge?

This is a similar challenge for children under 4. They need to be registered in the same way and follow the same pattern as above. However, they will receive a Mini Challenge Pack on the second visit and the stickers collected are also different. On completion of the challenge they will receive a special Gold Sticker rather than a medal.

Visit summerreadingchallenge.org.uk to find ideas for books you could read next as well as cool science ideas to try at home, exciting competitions, videos and games, and some surprises you can unlock using codes from your stickers.

You can chat online about books and write reviews of what you have read.

Do this at home or use one of the computers in Stannington Library especially reserved for young people.

Look out for the Summer Reading Challenge next year!

STAND was formed in 2013 after Sheffield City Council announced its decision to close sixteen libraries (including Stannington) unless volunteers took them on. STAND was registered as a charity in 2014 and is funded by grants, donations and fund-raising activities. The library is run by a team of dedicated volunteers.
